A day in the life of The Connected Family
The summer, workday edition with an 8-, 6-, and 3-year-old
As promised, I’m back with another day in the life — this time, as we round the end of summer. You’ll notice many similarities from the spring version, with one major difference: the two olders are home from school while John and I work from home. While I’m grateful for the flexibility, these work-from-home-with-kids-around days are my least favorite type of days. I much prefer to be able to focus on one thing at a time: either all in on parenting, or all in on working. When the two mix, it’s easy to feel like I’m not doing either well.
However — the big-picture value of long summer days at home is a pretty strong “why” for me, and I’m willing to endure less-than-ideal circumstances for myself for a few weeks to make it happen.
So here we go — a peek at a typical day in the life of our family in the summer, when our kids are 8, 6, and 3!
And psst: thank you again to my paid subscribers! You make it possible (and still engaging and fun!) to write with a little more privacy, and for that I’m grateful.
7:30am My alarm goes off and I hit snooze. I rarely set an alarm anymore, as John is almost always up before me, but today I wanted to make sure I was awake in time for our slightly-unusual morning.
